Varshan

Varshan's exile began with a document he was expected to forget. While cataloguing records belonging to a powerful Vendhyan household, he discovered evidence that an honored ancestor's celebrated deeds had been carefully fabricated and the true account deliberately removed from the histories. Varshan had no particular desire to embarrass the family, nor did he consider himself a crusader for justice; he simply could not tolerate the destruction of the genuine record. He secretly copied the documents before they could be burned and, when confronted, freely admitted doing so. Unfortunately, he then made matters considerably worse by calmly explaining that exile would not change the fact that he had been correct. The family possessed enough influence to have him condemned but not enough to risk executing a respected archivist over inconvenient papers, and so Varshan found himself chained among the exiles—deeply irritated by the loss of his library, somewhat concerned about his immediate future, and privately fascinated by everything he was about to see.
