Establishes the core principles of Ash & Blood, covering community standards, remaining in character, respectful conduct, good-faith roleplay, dispute resolution, reporting violations and administrative principles that ensure fair, immersive and enjoyable roleplay for everyone.

Introduction

BOOK I

Community & Conduct Guidelines

The Foundation of Every Story

Every roleplay community is built upon a shared understanding between its players. While characters may become enemies, kingdoms may rise and fall, and wars may reshape the Exiled Lands, the people behind those stories share the responsibility of creating an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

These guidelines exist to establish that foundation. They are not intended to limit creativity, but to ensure that every player can participate in immersive, fair and respectful roleplay regardless of experience or playstyle.

Throughout this handbook, one principle should remain above all others:

"Create stories worth remembering, not victories worth forgetting."
📖

Story First

Roleplay always takes priority over mechanics, personal gain or competitive success.

🤝

Respect

Treat every player with maturity and remember that character conflict should never become personal conflict.

Fair Play

The rules exist to protect the shared experience, never to provide technical advantages.

Remember
  • Roleplay comes before winning.
  • Rules exist to improve stories, not prevent them.
  • Always choose the option that creates better roleplay.
  • If a rule has multiple interpretations, never exploit the one that benefits you unfairly.

✖ Poor Conduct

  • Looking for loopholes instead of roleplay.
  • Winning at the expense of another player's experience.
  • Treating rules as obstacles to bypass.
  • Creating unnecessary OOC hostility.

✔ Good Conduct

  • Prioritize believable stories over personal victories.
  • Respect every player's time and effort.
  • Resolve disagreements calmly.
  • Contribute to scenes that everyone enjoys.
🚫 IMPORTANT

No rulebook can account for every possible situation that may occur during roleplay.

If you ever find yourself asking, "The rules don't explicitly forbid this, so can I do it?", you are likely approaching the situation incorrectly. Instead, ask whether your decision contributes positively to the roleplay experience of everyone involved.

CHAPTER I —The Spirit of Ash & Blood

CHAPTER I

The Spirit of Ash & Blood

Every Rule Begins With One Philosophy

Ash & Blood is a roleplay-first server. Every rule, mechanic and administrative decision exists to support immersive storytelling rather than competitive gameplay. Success is not measured by how often you win, but by the stories you help create and the experiences you leave behind for others.

Roleplay is a collaborative form of storytelling. Every interaction should contribute to a shared narrative where every participant has opportunities to develop their character, influence the world and enjoy the scene. Your goal is not to become the protagonist of every story, but to help create memorable stories alongside everyone around you.

Core Philosophy
  • Story and realism always come before game mechanics.
  • Create opportunities for others rather than obstacles.
  • Roleplay is collaborative, not competitive.
  • Everyone deserves an enjoyable experience.
  • Fairness is always more important than victory.
Collaborative Storytelling

Every player contributes to the same living world. Great roleplay is created by sharing the spotlight, supporting one another's stories and allowing meaningful successes, failures and consequences to shape future interactions. Even your rivals are collaborators helping to tell your character's story.

✔ Encouraged

  • Develop long-term and slow-burning stories.
  • Accept setbacks, failures and meaningful consequences.
  • Share the spotlight and help others shine.
  • Create scenes that everyone can contribute to.
  • Think, speak and act as your character.

✖ Discouraged

  • Playing only to win or dominate scenes.
  • Searching for loopholes or technical advantages.
  • Ignoring consequences when they become inconvenient.
  • Monopolizing roleplay or treating yourself as the main character.
  • Ruining scenes for personal gain or amusement.
🚫 RULE OF COMMON SENSE

No rulebook can account for every possible situation. When a situation is not explicitly covered, choose the option that best supports fair, believable and collaborative roleplay rather than the one that provides the greatest personal advantage.

Staff will always interpret the rules according to their spirit and intended purpose. Deliberately relying on technical loopholes or literal wording to gain an unfair advantage is considered contrary to the philosophy of Ash & Blood, even if the exact situation is not specifically described elsewhere in the handbook.

Quick Summary
  • Roleplay before mechanics.
  • Story before victory.
  • Share the spotlight.
  • Create opportunities for others.
  • Respect every player's experience and time.
  • Follow both the letter and the spirit of the rules.

CHAPTER II — Remaining In Character

CHAPTER II

Remaining In Character

Keep the Character Separate From the Player

Roleplay only works when characters react to the world using the knowledge, beliefs, emotions and experiences they have earned through roleplay, rather than the information, preferences or opinions of the player behind them. Your character should feel like a believable individual whose decisions are shaped by their own history, not by outside knowledge or convenience.

🤖 AI Generated Responses

AI tools may never be used to generate live roleplay replies during active scenes. Your character's dialogue, reactions and decisions should always originate from you rather than an automated language model.

Grammar correction, spelling assistance and proofreading software remain permitted, provided those tools simply improve the readability of text that you have already written yourself.

Communication Standards

All in-character (IC) roleplay must be conducted in English. Players are expected to write using reasonably clear grammar, punctuation and sentence structure to maintain readability and support collaborative storytelling. Perfection is not required, but a genuine effort should always be made.

While in-game, players are expected to remain in character whenever possible. Any out-of-character communication must be clearly identified using ((double parentheses)) or the appropriate OOC communication channels.

Local OOC messages should be limited to brief necessities such as stepping away from the keyboard or resolving immediate technical issues. Extended conversations should always be moved to the appropriate OOC channel.

Unless clearly marked as out-of-character, all speech, actions and interactions are presumed to be entirely in-character and may be treated as such by everyone present.

✔ Examples

  • (( BRB, answering the door. ))
  • Using an OOC channel for game-related questions.
  • Writing dialogue entirely in-character during scenes.

✖ Not Allowed

  • Holding lengthy OOC conversations in local chat.
  • Using another language during IC roleplay.
  • Claiming a message was OOC after forgetting to mark it.
  • Using unmarked local chat to discuss mechanics.
General Rule
  • Speak and act as your character whenever possible.
  • Separate character knowledge from player knowledge.
  • Allow your character to make believable mistakes.
  • Remain consistent with your established personality and experiences.
  • Accept the consequences of your character's choices.
Character Consistency

Your character should remain consistent with the personality, beliefs, relationships and experiences they have established through roleplay. Characters are expected to grow naturally over time, but meaningful change should be earned through events, consequences and long-term development rather than appearing suddenly whenever it becomes convenient.

✔ Consistent Development

  • Learning from previous successes and failures.
  • Changing gradually after major experiences.
  • Remembering important relationships and events.
  • Allowing trauma, victories and failures to shape future decisions.

✖ Inconsistent Behavior

  • Ignoring previous roleplay because it is inconvenient.
  • Selectively forgetting established events or relationships.
  • Changing your personality overnight without believable development.
  • Completely rewriting your character to gain an advantage.

✔ In Character

  • React only to information your character knows.
  • Roleplay fear, confusion and uncertainty naturally.
  • Ask questions instead of assuming answers.
  • Develop through experience instead of rewriting your history.
  • Remain believable, even when it is inconvenient.

✖ Out of Character

  • Using Discord information during roleplay.
  • Acting on knowledge gained outside the game.
  • Ignoring your established personality for advantage.
  • Selectively forgetting previous roleplay.
  • Breaking immersion without a valid reason.
🚫 META KNOWLEDGE

Knowing something as a player does not mean your character knows it. Unless your character learns information through roleplay, they must behave as though they are genuinely unaware of it.

Likewise, your character may not selectively forget events, relationships or experiences simply because remembering them would place them at a disadvantage. Character knowledge should remain consistent throughout your roleplay unless memory loss itself has become a legitimate part of the story.

Remaining in character means consistently portraying the individual you have created, even when doing so leads to failure, hardship or difficult decisions.

Quick Summary
  • Think like your character.
  • Use only character knowledge.
  • Remain consistent with your established character.
  • Allow growth to happen naturally through roleplay.
  • Never ignore previous roleplay because it becomes inconvenient.
  • Never allow OOC information to influence IC actions.

CHAPTER III — Out of Character Communication

CHAPTER III

Out of Character Communication

Keep OOC Separate From IC

Out of Character (OOC) communication should be kept to a minimum while roleplaying. Frequent OOC interruptions reduce immersion, distract from ongoing scenes and negatively affect everyone participating in the shared story.

General Rules
  • Keep OOC chat brief and only when necessary.
  • Resolve OOC issues outside active roleplay whenever possible.
  • Return to roleplay immediately once the issue is resolved.
  • Never use OOC communication to influence an ongoing IC scene.
OOC Is Not A Negotiation Tool

Out-of-character communication must never be used to negotiate, pressure or manipulate the outcome of an in-character situation. Once a scene has begun, players are expected to resolve it through roleplay and the server's established systems rather than private OOC agreements or requests for favorable treatment.

✔ Appropriate OOC

  • Reporting a crash or technical issue.
  • Clarifying a game mechanic.
  • Discussing accessibility concerns.
  • Asking staff to clarify a rule after the scene.

✖ Inappropriate OOC

  • "Can you let me win this?"
  • "Don't attack me."
  • "Can we pretend that never happened?"
  • Negotiating IC consequences through OOC messages.
🚫 DO NOT PAUSE ROLEPLAY

Disagreements should almost never stop an active roleplay scene. Continue the roleplay whenever reasonably possible, collect evidence if necessary and contact staff after the scene has concluded.

Attempting to pause a scene simply because the situation is no longer favorable, or because you wish to negotiate a different outcome through OOC discussion, is not an acceptable reason to interrupt roleplay.

Exceptions
  • Staff instructions.
  • Serious rule violations requiring immediate intervention.
  • Technical issues preventing the scene from continuing.
  • Situations involving player safety or harassment.
Quick Summary
  • Keep OOC communication to a minimum.
  • Never negotiate IC outcomes through OOC.
  • Never argue during active roleplay.
  • Finish the scene before reporting issues whenever possible.
  • Only interrupt roleplay when absolutely necessary.

CHAPTER IV — Respecting Fellow Players

CHAPTER IV

Respecting Fellow Players

Respect the Player, Challenge the Character

Conflict is an essential part of roleplay, but it should always remain between characters. Every player deserves to feel respected, regardless of their faction, experience or role within the server. Great rivalries create memorable stories, but they should never damage the respect shared between the people behind those characters.

General Rules
  • Remain respectful at all times.
  • Attack the character, never the player.
  • Accept defeat with maturity.
  • Treat new and veteran players equally.
Good Sportsmanship

The best roleplayers understand that every memorable rivalry is created by two people working together. Winning a conflict is temporary, but leaving another player excited to roleplay with you again is what builds a healthy community.

✔ Good Sportsmanship

  • Congratulate memorable roleplay after a scene.
  • Thank players after intense conflicts or emotional roleplay.
  • Help new players learn and improve.
  • Separate character hatred from player appreciation.
  • Leave every interaction on good terms OOC.

✖ Unacceptable Conduct

  • Personal insults or harassment.
  • Mocking players after victories.
  • Targeting someone out of spite.
  • Creating a hostile OOC environment.
  • Allowing OOC frustration to affect future roleplay.
🚫 NO OOC RETALIATION

Do not retaliate against another player because of previous disagreements, reports or personal issues outside of roleplay. Character actions must always have a legitimate in-character reason.

If an interaction leaves you frustrated, take a break or contact staff if necessary. Personal disagreements should never become the foundation for future in-character actions.

Remember
  • Characters may hate each other.
  • Players should never hate each other.
  • Strong roleplay never requires personal hostility.
  • Every great rival is also your storytelling partner.
Quick Summary
  • Respect every player.
  • Keep conflict between characters.
  • Practice good sportsmanship.
  • Never harass or retaliate OOC.
  • Leave every scene with mutual respect.

CHAPTER V — Good Faith Roleplay

CHAPTER V

Good Faith Roleplay

Play to Create Stories, Not Advantages

Every player is expected to participate in roleplay honestly and in good faith. While your character may pursue power, wealth or influence, your decisions should always contribute to believable roleplay rather than exploiting mechanics or technicalities.

General Rules
  • Always roleplay with honest intent.
  • Do not exploit loopholes or unclear wording.
  • Accept setbacks that naturally result from roleplay.
  • Contribute to scenes instead of controlling them.

✔ Good Faith

  • Allow others to influence your story.
  • Accept failure when appropriate.
  • Create opportunities for roleplay.
  • Value memorable scenes over winning.

✖ Bad Faith

  • Searching for technical loopholes.
  • Ignoring obvious roleplay for personal gain.
  • Using mechanics to avoid consequences.
  • Creating scenes solely to "beat" other players.
🚫 SPIRIT OVER LETTER

Rules are interpreted according to their intended purpose, not their exact wording. Deliberately exploiting loopholes, omissions or technicalities is considered bad faith roleplay and may still result in administrative action.

Example

Your character discovers an unlocked gate because another player forgot to close it. Instead of immediately exploiting the mistake, consider whether doing so creates believable roleplay or simply takes advantage of an oversight. Good faith means choosing the better story over the easier victory. ®

Quick Summary
  • Roleplay honestly.
  • Never exploit loopholes.
  • Accept meaningful consequences.
  • Choose the better story, not the easier victory.

CHAPTER VI — Resolving Rule Disputes

CHAPTER VI

Resolving Rule Disputes

Handle Disagreements Maturely

Disagreements are inevitable in roleplay. How they are handled is often more important than the disagreement itself. Players are expected to remain calm, finish the scene whenever possible and allow staff to resolve disputes impartially.
Unless there is clear evidence otherwise, assume another player made an honest mistake rather than intentionally attempting to break the rules. Many disputes are the result of misunderstandings, miscommunication or different interpretations rather than malicious intent.

General Rules
  • Remain calm and respectful.
  • Continue the roleplay whenever reasonably possible.
  • Record evidence before opening a report.
  • Accept the final decision made by staff.

✔ Correct Procedure

  • Finish the scene.
  • Collect screenshots or recordings.
  • Open a staff ticket.
  • Explain the situation objectively.

✖ Incorrect Procedure

  • Arguing during roleplay.
  • Threatening to report someone.
  • Demanding immediate staff intervention.
  • Starting OOC arguments in chat.
🚫 DO NOT "RULEPLAY"

Do not quote rules, argue interpretations or attempt to enforce the rulebook during an active roleplay scene. Allow the scene to conclude, then let staff review the evidence if necessary. ©

Remember
  • Staff cannot fix missing evidence.
  • Remain factual, not emotional.
  • Do not involve uninvolved players.
  • One report is enough. Avoid duplicate tickets.
Quick Summary
  • Finish the roleplay first.
  • Gather evidence.
  • Report calmly and honestly.
  • Respect the final staff decision.

CHAPTER VII — Zero Tolerance Violations

CHAPTER VII

Zero Tolerance Violations

Some Behaviors Have No Place Here

Certain actions are fundamentally incompatible with the community we aim to build. These behaviors are considered among the most serious violations of the rules and may result in immediate administrative action, including permanent removal from the server.

🚫 Zero Tolerance Violations

👶 Minors

In Character or Out of Character graphic roleplay, depictions or references involving minors in any capacity are strictly prohibited.

🌍 Hate Speech

In Character or Out of Character racial slurs, hate speech or discriminatory language directed toward real-world races, ethnicities or religions are strictly prohibited.

⚠ Sexual Assault & Trauma

Out of Character jokes, mockery or trivialization of rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment or real-world traumatic experiences are strictly prohibited.

⚖ Discrimination

Out of Character discrimination, harassment or hate speech targeting another individual based upon gender, race, religion, sexuality, nationality or identity is strictly prohibited.

🪖 Real-World Atrocities

In Character or Out of Character references glorifying extremist ideologies, real-world atrocities or graphic historical tragedies are strictly prohibited.

🐾 Bestiality

Roleplay depicting, encouraging or describing sexual acts involving animals, beasts or creatures is strictly prohibited regardless of context or consent.

⚖ Administrative Response

Violations listed within this section are not treated as ordinary rule infractions. Due to their severity, they may result in immediate disciplinary action up to and including permanent removal from the Ash & Blood community without prior warning.

Administrative responses are determined after reviewing the available evidence, surrounding circumstances and the overall safety of the community.

✖ Prohibited

  • Using real-world racial slurs.
  • Making jokes about sexual assault.
  • Posting extremist imagery or references.
  • Creating roleplay involving minors.
  • Harassing another player because of protected characteristics.
  • Making jokes about self-harm or other sensitive real-world tragedies.
  • Roleplaying or promoting bestiality.

✔ Community Standard

  • Treat every player with dignity and respect.
  • Keep sensitive topics within the boundaries established by the server.
  • Maintain a safe environment for collaborative storytelling.
  • Report serious violations instead of engaging with them.
  • Respect the community regardless of personal differences.
🚫 HARASSMENT IS NEVER ROLEPLAY

Using roleplay as an excuse to harass, insult, intimidate or deliberately target another player is never permitted. Staff will always distinguish legitimate character conflict from unacceptable player behavior.

Repeated unwanted contact, stalking players across Discord or other platforms, encouraging others to target someone, or continuing unwanted interactions after being asked to stop constitutes harassment regardless of whether roleplay is used as a justification.

Examples
  • Insulting a rival character during roleplay is acceptable.
  • Insulting the player behind that character is not.
  • Declaring war on a clan is roleplay.
  • Following someone across platforms to continue an argument is harassment.
  • Encouraging other players to harass, isolate or repeatedly target someone is harassment.
Quick Summary
  • Respect every player.
  • Harassment is never acceptable.
  • Respect every player's privacy and personal boundaries.
  • Zero tolerance violations may result in immediate removal.

CHAPTER VIII — Reporting Violations

CHAPTER VIII

Reporting Violations

Help Us Keep the Community Fair

Reporting rule violations helps staff resolve issues fairly, consistently and impartially. Reports should always be truthful, supported by evidence and submitted in good faith. The purpose of the reporting system is to protect the integrity of the community, not to win disagreements.

Before Opening a Report
  • Finish the roleplay whenever reasonably possible.
  • Collect screenshots or video evidence.
  • Write an objective description.
  • Report only what you personally witnessed.

Rule disagreements should never interrupt an active roleplay scene unless another chapter of this handbook explicitly requires immediate staff intervention. If you believe a rule has been broken, continue the scene whenever reasonably possible, preserve the evidence and submit a report afterward.

Players may not pause a scene, invalidate another player's actions or attempt to enforce the rules themselves. Determining whether a violation occurred is the responsibility of the Administration Team after reviewing all available evidence.

Likewise, avoid publicly arguing about the rules or attempting to moderate other players during active roleplay. If clarification is genuinely necessary, resolve it privately or through the appropriate staff channels after the scene has concluded.

Staff investigate reports as neutral fact-finders. Their responsibility is to determine what occurred based on the available evidence, not to advocate for either party.

✔ Correct Response

  • Finish the scene whenever reasonably possible.
  • Record screenshots or video.
  • Open a staff ticket afterward with clear evidence.
  • Allow moderators to determine whether a violation occurred.

✖ Incorrect Response

  • Typing "(( Pause, that's against the rules. ))"
  • Declaring another player's actions invalid.
  • Arguing over rules in local chat.
  • Attempting to moderate another player yourself.

✔ Good Reports

  • Include clear screenshots or video evidence.
  • Remain factual and concise.
  • Reference the relevant rule whenever possible.
  • Provide important context, even if it does not support your position.
  • Accept the investigation outcome respectfully.

✖ Bad Reports

  • Submitting false or misleading information.
  • Editing evidence to change context.
  • Deliberately withholding relevant evidence.
  • Mass-reporting another player.
  • Using reports to harass or retaliate.

📋 What To Include In A Report

  • A clear explanation of what occurred.
  • The names of everyone directly involved.
  • Relevant screenshots or video recordings whenever available.
  • The approximate time the incident occurred.
  • Any additional context that may assist the investigation.
🚫 FALSE REPORTS

Knowingly submitting false, fabricated or intentionally misleading evidence, withholding important context or abusing the reporting system will result in disciplinary action. Reports exist to protect the community, not to settle personal disputes.

A report that intentionally omits critical information can be just as misleading as one that contains fabricated evidence.

Remember
  • Staff investigate evidence, not emotions.
  • Be honest, even if it weakens your report.
  • Do not discuss active investigations publicly.
  • One complete report is better than several incomplete ones.
Quick Summary
  • Finish the scene first whenever possible.
  • Submit complete and truthful evidence.
  • Allow staff to determine whether a rule was broken.
  • Never abuse the reporting system.

CHAPTER IX — Administrative Principles

CHAPTER IX

Administrative Principles

How Rules Are Interpreted & Enforced

The administration team exists to preserve a fair, enjoyable and immersive environment. Staff decisions are guided by consistency, common sense and the overall health of the community, rather than technical loopholes or personal opinions.

Administrative Principles
  • Every report is reviewed individually.
  • Context always matters.
  • The spirit of the rules takes priority over literal wording.
  • Staff may intervene whenever necessary to protect the server, preserve fair roleplay or address situations not explicitly covered by the written rules.
  • Not every situation can be covered by written rules.
  • Players may respectfully request clarification or appeal a decision through the appropriate staff channels, but repeated attempts to reopen closed cases may themselves become a disciplinary issue.

✔ What Players Can Expect

  • Impartial investigations.
  • Consistent rule enforcement.
  • Respectful communication.
  • Decisions based on available evidence.

✖ What Staff Cannot Guarantee

  • An outcome everyone agrees with.
  • Instant responses.
  • Punishments based on assumptions.
  • Exceptions because of rank or popularity.
🚫 FINAL DECISIONS

Once a report has been reviewed and a final decision has been issued, the case is considered closed. Repeatedly arguing the same decision, attempting to pressure staff or encouraging others to reopen resolved cases may itself become a disciplinary issue.

Remember
  • Staff are here to facilitate roleplay, not participate in disputes.
  • Rules cannot replace common sense.
  • Respectful feedback is always welcome.
  • The goal of every decision is a healthier community.
Book I Summary
  • Prioritize roleplay over mechanics.
  • Remain in character whenever possible.
  • Respect every player.
  • Resolve disputes calmly.
  • Report violations honestly.
  • Follow both the letter and spirit of the rules.
  • Help create stories others will remember.
